Division of External Programs

External Programs is a division of CEC that works to develop and offer flexible education to students and lifelong learners in three branches:

  1. Continuing education;
  2. Executive education; and
  3. Distance education

The overall activity of the division has been growing to fulfill a complex and comprehensive role within the College by supporting its outreach activities.

The mission and goals of External Programs is to:

  • Provide access to higher education opportunities through a variety of non-traditional approaches.
  • Adapt the traditional systems for developing, scheduling, and delivering credit and non-credit programs and courses so that individuals and groups in Florida and around the world, who might not otherwise have access to FIU’s broad range of quality education, will be able to access FIU programs to meet their diverse learning needs.
  • Develop and offer programs that range from professional and personal development opportunities to individual credit courses and a range of degrees.
  • Provide working professionals with access to FIU opportunities to meet their degree and certification needs as well as their continuing education and executive training goals while maintaining careers and fulfilling other obligations.
  • Develop dynamic synergies through a combination of College faculty and proven practitioners and carefully chosen consultants.
  • Provide the College, Departments, and faculty members with additional, and much needed, sources of funding.

For 2010-11 the Division of External Programs has concentrated on becoming the leading regional educational provider in the three branches: Continuing education, Executive education, and Distance education.
